Birger Dahl Returns
LightCo is pleased to introduce the latest 2026 releases from Northern, a Norwegian producer dedicated to preserving the best of Scandinavian design through timeless craftsmanship. Northern's newest additions honour the legacy of Birger Dahl, one of Norway's most celebrated mid-century designers, through the revival of three Birger Dahl designs: the Hall Wall Light, the Dahl Chandelier, and the Dahl Wall Light. From the compact architectural clarity of Hall, which has long illuminated the façades of Oslo City Hall and other landmark buildings across Norway, to the sculptural formality of the Dahl series created for Norway's Parliament building in 1956, each piece reflects Dahl's defining belief in the purity of form, where geometry, material, and atmosphere exist in quiet, enduring alignment.
Hall Wall Light
Designed by Birger Dahl in 1955, the Hall Wall Light carries a monumental history within a compact and immediately recognisable form. Originally installed across Oslo City Hall, Elverum Town Hall, and Statens hus in Vadsø, the design is defined by its mouth-blown opal glass shade divided by a slender metal band, projecting from the wall on a compact cast arm. Equally at home in interiors and outdoor spaces, Hall casts a generous, even glow across entrances, hallways, and exterior facades alike. Northern's relaunch preserves the silhouette and spirit of Dahl's original, updated for contemporary living with integrated dimmable LED technology and a versatile wall bracket that allows both vertical and horizontal installation. Available in Black or Brushed Aluminium.
Dahl Chandelier
Designed by Birger Dahl, the Dahl Chandelier originates from a complete lighting commission created for the renovation of Norway's Parliament building in 1956. Rediscovered in the Parliament archives and faithfully returned to production by Northern, the chandelier suspends nine mouth-blown opal glass shades from a sculptural steel framework with refined brass detailing – strict geometric forms softened by the gentle contours that defined Dahl's design vocabulary. The effect is warm and atmospheric without being decorative for its own sake. Available with Small or Large glass shades, in Brass or Black. The Dahl Chandelier bridges Norwegian design heritage with the demands of contemporary living.
Dahl Wall Light
Designed by Birger Dahl, the Dahl Wall Light is also drawn from the original 1956 commission for Norway's Parliament building. Rediscovered in the Parliament archives alongside the chandelier and faithfully returned to production by Northern, it completes the Dahl series – joining the pendant, which Northern first reintroduced in 2016. A mouth-blown opal glass shade is paired with a slim architectural arm and refined brass detailing, diffusing illumination evenly to create a warm and glare-free atmosphere across both intimate and social settings. The circular wall mount introduces a graphic simplicity that reads as confidently at home as it does in design-led commercial settings.
With each archival reintroduction, Northern continues to demonstrate that the most enduring Scandinavian design requires nothing added, only care in preservation, and precision in return. These three pieces reflect Birger Dahl's belief that form should speak for itself, where geometric clarity, quality material, and atmospheric light exist in quiet, lasting harmony.
